Kahua Music Ltd

Kahua Music is based in the north-east of England and was formed in 2005, initially as a record store. Kahua's promotion and publishing sections were formed in late 2007/early 2008 offering specialist services to record labels and artists working within the house genre.

Company Background
Kahua Music was formed in 2005, initially as a record store based in Middlesbrough.  Kahua's ‘Promotion’ and ‘Publishing’ divisions were formed in late 2007/early 2008 offering specialist services to record labels and artists working within dance music, and predominantly the ‘house’ genre.  The ‘Knowledge’ division of Kahua was added in early 2010 to provide consultancy and business development services to the music industry.

Kahua is headed up by Ian Straker, who has a passion for, and experience of, a wide range of areas within dance music. Ian's involvement in the music industry began whilst at University as a DJ, event organiser/promoter and as 'Head of Dance Music' at LCR Radio, and have grown to include promotions and marketing, publishing, retail, distribution, licensing and almost all aspects of the music industry.

Ian is also co-owner of Lost My Dog Records where he is responsible for A&R and the day to day operation of the label, including scheduling, licensing, press, promotion and marketing. Many of Kahua Music's services have grown out of the experience and expertise gained from running Lost My Dog.

Promotions
Kahua provides promotional and marketing services to record labels and artists, with a specific focus on house music.  Kahua works to promote music to club DJs, specialist radio and specialist press, helps clients to raise their profile and offers online marketing solutions.  Our bespoke online music promo delivery system can also be licensed and branded for use by other organisations wishing to send music and collect feedback.

Publishing
Kahua works with songwriters and composers to collect royalties due from the use of their copyrights and to find further uses for their works, for example through synchronisation licences to TV and film producers, advertisers and computer game developers.

Knowledge
Kahua offers independent consultancy and business development services on all aspects of the music industry including marketing and promotions, publishing, retail, record labels, A&R, contracts and deals.
