The Boho Zone
The Boho Zone provides business space for new digital and creative companies to grow, network and do business. It is the digital media, digital technologies and creative industries quarter in the heart of Middlesbrough and is like no other - a radical, beautiful combination of refurbished Victorian buildings and stunning new design. A genuine creative hub where new businesses, established successful companies and support agencies work together.
Cafés, restaurants and shops spill out - exhibitions and events on every corner, street life 24-7-365. A safe, bohemian environment where people can do their best work, come together, collaborate and thrive. Inspired by the Sohos in New York and London, two of the most successful creative centres of the past century. Unique in the UK, unheard of round the world.
The Boho Zone is 10 Ha of City Centre land reserved for the development of commercial property for housing digital technology companies. Situated only 30 seconds walk from the City Train Station, 10 minutes walk from the University Campus and 30 minutes drive from the International Airport the Boho Zone is at the Centre of the New Economy in Teesside. Currently three major builds have been completed; the $12 million Boho One, Technology Accelerator Building, the $5 million Boho Houses live-work studios that provide both work space and living quarters for digital entrepreneurs.
Further construction projects by the private sector are due to commence in the New Year. One is the refurbishment of Corporation House and an entirely new build office facility by Green Lane Development Company. The land is owned by DigitalCity’s parent Middlesbrough Council and interactions with private sector developers have proved successful. The Council & DigitalCity are actively seeking Public/ Private Sector partnerships, whereby private money would be matched by a percentage of public finance.
